Get Reading Right was set up in 2005 after co-founders Jo-Anne Dooner and Michael Wood trialed the approach with four classes from the first year of school. Two classes were taught using traditional phonics and two used synthetic phonics. After four months the trial was called off; those children in the control group were just too far behind the synthetic phonics group - the school had to implement the programme across the board.

 

Since those first classes the team at Get Reading Right has helped set up thousands of schools across the globe and seen this success time and time again. The programme is in a growing number of leading Australian schools, thousands of schools in the UK and 80% of Hong Kong international schools.
