Literacy Specialist? Teacher? Professor? Join Read Australia™ and contribute
to the Read Australia™ Parents Aboard Program- a resource for parents of
pre-school and Prep aged children, and of children failing to read and spell with
confidence by the age of 7.
'Parents Board' is a new free online support network.
There will be specific training courses and resources available for parents, childcare
centres, youth agencies and schools later this year. We are writing a series of books for parents based on clinical studies and worldwide research into the development of early language and literacy development and the prevention of literacy failure. A range of resources and phonics based 'readers' will also be available. Part of 'Parents Aboard' is the 'Fresh Start to Literacy' which is specifically for children aged 8+ who are not reading and spelling with confidence- including teenagers. Join as a Committee Member and contribute to the program- it is non 'phonics program' specific and encourages us to unite us as specialists.

Teaching reading is a hugely complicated task. So much so that researcher Louisa Moats ended up entitling her influential article "Teaching Reading IS Rocket Science." (This, incidentally, also became the basis for the Reading Rockets name!).
